It’s out with the old and time to welcome the new. The season for cleaning your home is here yet again after the holidays have passed and the snow slowly melts away. A lot of people dread spring cleaning, not knowing where to start. But a clean home is a good home. It’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to it.

Make a Plan

If you don’t know where to start, don’t fret, simply assess your home to see which room is the most in need of work. This would be the areas you tend to skip or put off from doing during regular cleaning schedules. A good way to start would be with these more strenuous rooms and work your way around the house. It’s always good to have a plan when you start spring cleaning to help you focus on the task at hand.

Clutter Be Gone

A cluttered house can also affect your stress levels—just look at that pile of laundry! it’s important to declutter regularly to keep your home and your mind clear. Look around in your cupboards, closets, and drawers. Make sure your canned goods, makeup or cosmetics and the like are all still fresh and not expired because if so, then you can toss it right out. This would be a good way to start your decluttering process. It’s also a nice way to keep track of what you own, giving you time to decide what you want to keep and what you can possibly donate.

Cook your heart out

Strap on an apron and try your hand at a recipe you’ve never used before. Fall in love with your kitchen and use it to its fullest potential. See what you can make out of leftovers or out of a ten dollar budget. Food is an art that you can certainly get creative with, and it’s a plus that you get to eat it afterward.

Organize

After decluttering, organizing what you have left would be much easier. Make sure you set aside time to organize the smaller items. For example, go through your junk drawers and adopt the KonMari method. Keep your belongings in their designated drawers to keep them visible and organized. Closets should always be kept arranged so you can see all your clothes and not run out of things to wear. In this step, you can also organize your bedroom or office after you clean the whole room.

Windows and Walls

Windows are the eyes to a home, so it’s always satisfying to look at when the window is as clear as day. You can do this both outside and inside for maximum window cleanliness. Floors are always cleaned but walls are also in need of some cleaning. This can be achieved with a damp cloth to wipe down the walls or by using a vacuum with an extension to reach dust and cobwebs.

Top to Bottom

When cleaning, make sure you always start from the top. This assures that dust or debris are cleared out. This will help you avoid re-dusting and re-doing your cleaning routine. You can also take time to research about good DIY cleaners for easier cleaning.
