Three Refreshing Summery Drinks You Can Make at Home

On a really hot summer’s day, it seems quite impossible to quench your thirst and cool off. Sometimes, it can be expensive to do so, too. But then simple luxuries like this doesn’t need to be hard, nor should it be expensive. Everyone needs some time off from the stress that comes with the summer heat. So, to make the hot days a bit easier to bear, here are three recipes of pretty cool drinks recommended by The Telegraph to try and make in the very comforts of your home.

The Classy Shirley Temple

To enjoy this mocktail, all you need to have are five ingredients and that zest for excitement. What’s great about this recipe is that it’s given a refreshing twist – the addition of some lime juice. To make this drink, the ingredients are 15 ml grenadine syrup, 15 ml freshly squeezed lime juice, 200 ml chilled ginger ale, Maraschino cocktail cherry and a thin lime slice, and some ice cubes. What you do first is to take a tumbler and put in some ice cubes. Add grenadine, lime juice and ginger ale. Give this a good mix, and then garnish with cherry and lime slice. Voila!

So, when you have a recipe from Difford’s you know it’s the best of the best. Take ST Kitts for example, it is one of their cocktails that is great for a hot day because of how its deeply refreshing tropical taste.

The ingredients include 75 ml pineapple juice, 25 ml freshly squeezed lime juice, 15 ml grenadine syrup, cold ginger ale as a top up, a lime slice, and a lot of ice cubes. Pour in all the juices and grenadine in a cocktail shaker over some ice and give it a good shake. Then, strain the concoction into a glass filled with us. Top this up with ginger ale (according to taste) and stir altogether. Garnish with the lime slice. What you have there is nothing short of wonderful.

Lime & Lemon Grass Spritzer from the book “Make Mine a Martini” by Kay Plunkett-Hogge

For an earthier vibe, try this easy and scented spritzer. All you need is half of a lemon grass stalk (leaves removed and core sliced), 30 ml fresh lime juice, 15 ml sugar syrup, chilled soda water and ice cubes. First place the lemon glass in a glass tumbler and mix-up well until you see the oils release. Fill the glass with ice pouring in the lime juice and sugar syrup. Top up the drink with the soda water and stir well. There’s nothing like this on a hot summer’s day!
